Legal Mentors assist lawyers to take advantage of the increasingly competitive market for legal services. Whether it is because of impending de-regulation or just a desire to go for growth, legal firms are moving rapidly towards a more commercial approach to managing their practice. Legal firms rely on the team at Legal Mentors to guide them through the process of creating a new Vision for their practice; linking goals and activities to that Vision, to gain the buy-in of all staff and finally, to ensure that the intended progress is made.
Practice Fitness Check
In the busy and competitive world of the solicitor’s practice, it can be difficult to gauge how you are performing as a business.
As specialists in helping legal practices improve their performance and profitability we, at Legal Mentors, have plenty of experience in helping a legal practice work more effectively as a business. We leave the evaluation of the quality of your legal work to you, the legal specialists. We concentrate on all the other business aspects of the practice.
We have condensed this experience into an initial in-house process called the “Practice Fitness Check” to assess your fitness as a business. Working with you we will look together at eight key areas:
- Strategy
- Finance
- Management team
- H.R. and culture
- Succession and exit
- Marketing
- Client service
- I.T.
Our mentors are trained and experienced business professionals who will guide you though the process by helping you evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your practice. We can then help you to plan your next steps.
Who should be involved?
As many Partners as possible including the managing partner, or, in larger practices, members of the executive management team.
Duration
The session lasts approximately 90 minutes, followed by discussions based on the outcomes of the analyses. The session could be part of a scheduled partners’ meeting, or perhaps a separate meeting, whichever suits you best.
Result
At the end of the assessment, you will receive an immediate analysis of the performance of your business in the eight key areas. You and your colleagues will have a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of your practice. As a result, you will have identified the areas of your business which would benefit most from attention to improve overall performance.
The next step
We will then discuss with you how best you may move forward as part of an ongoing process of improvement.
